Fragmag : Fr. Agnels Magazine, an annual CRCE student magazine released right after the culmination of Euphoria, the college's cultural festival.

A short review-ish breakdown of the contents of this years Fragmag. People into Rock/Metal could skip to here.

And PS : The links are stochastic and not the actual articles in the mag. Put them just so people get a basic idea of the stuff that's being discussed

The cover, designed by Lee, stands out for being one of the most aesthetic covers the mag ever had. After turning out with half a dozen kickasser versions of the cover, Lee had to redo the entire cover in the trite themes of 'aiming for the sky/success' and 'work and play' according to Father's suggestions.

Technical Section

Witricity : An acute article on the new technology, jointly written by Mayank and Oves. In addition to being an interesting and groundbreaking topic, the working and functioning of the concept were described so lucidly that even a layman'd understand it. Well, I did...and hence, so would a layman. :\. Anyhow, full on feel aa gaya padhne mein.

Google : In spite of being a done-to-death subject, was a good insight to the working of one of the most dominating internet related companies.
AJAX
: An article on one of the newly emerging technologies sometime back (the 'reply' button on your scrapbooks bes using AJAX), with all the aspects concisely pointed out. A well written, terse article.
The Open Source Software article
: A very coeval article, considering that it's written by a prof. Was an interesting read.
The Formula 1 article
: A killer article…technical, informative and well researched on. Managed to include most of the latest happenings as well (including night racing this season and the possibility of re-inclusion of slick tires in 2009 bit)

English Section
Globalization : Copy pasted stuff mostly, methinks. Ended with spiritual notes from Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo which completely contradicted the ideology behind globalization :\
A Tribute To Bhagat Singh
: A precis on the life of the revolutionary who, IMO, is the truly revere-able nationalist youth idol our country has ever produced.
Mee Mumbaikar
: An absolute unilateral article on the recent MNS Vs North Indians issue, it focused solely on how retarded and sly the policies of Raj Thakeray are, without giving even an iota of thought to consider if there is any truth in what the guy is saying. A dual perspective of the subject would've been more evenhanded and fair. Should've been a debate-like 'For/Against' kinda thing, since the issue is not so elementary and uncomplicated that it can be presented by a one sided view.
Coalition Politics
: Penetrating into politics, the article highlighted the reasons why regional and national parties form coalitions just to stay in power, at times even when their core ideologies do not resonate.
IPL :
This was a well researched on article too, it took on the monetary perspective of the much hyped Indian Premier League, provided fiscal statistics, and discussed the chances and impact of IPLs success and otherwise. Didn't know the teams were standing to lose money for the first few years. But then, it's cricket..I wouldn't care less.
A Fresher's P.O.V.
: Nicely written by Febin, was apt and accurate for most of the parts. Went a bit pro-college at times, but then, spending just an year in college isn't really sufficient to previse the trails and tribulations that would follow. Killer parting line tho.
Hostels
: A good outline on how life in a hostel tends to be, the changes in lifestyle, the adjustments one has to make. Not THAT passionate that it'd make you run out of your house and join a hostel, but a honest account.
Rock is Dead
: On Rock music. Lameness raised to some huge number. More here.
Lateral Thinking
: Some ideology thought of by Edward De Bono. Basically calls for analyzing a situation first and then thinking of an alternative instead of trying the age-old solutions, and trying new innovations instead of the already existing models using open minded thinking. Out-of-boxgiri.

Poetries
60 years of freedom ? : Self explanatory title, had a distressed tone on the nations condition after 60 years of independence. Very kickass last stanza.
The Artifice of a Rainy day : Good use of language, fluctuating rhyme schemes.
Confusion : Full on retrospection. Tended to sound a bit Nu-Metalish at times. Ended on a devotional note.
What is a Mother ? : Short and sweet.
Fetters : Killer language and use of personification. And stuff that was metaphorically linked with elements of nature.
Tragedy of Life : Fvcking awesome. Managed to squeeze in a lot of emotions. The rhymes too, sounded unforced.
About a Tree: Ownage. Smoothly flowing rhymes. A good structure throughout.
Sky is the limit : A 'sky denotes achievement' piece. Seemed out of some Self-development book. The last stanza could've done well with a few grammatical tweaks.

An Interview of a Different Kind
A very assisting article on the career front was the interview with Mr. Hemant Baraskar, HR management trainee with TCS. Giving an insight on what to expect during an interview, it made the interview process clearing. Prabhu sir would be disappointed.

B.E. Articles
A 4 year account of their experiences written by the BE people, one article per branch.
HAHAHA @ last pic in B.E Comps 2 page

Student Activities and Club Reports
Debate Report : An old school type report on the Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues Mermorial Debate, which apparently, is the only thing the college is known for, other than getting screwed at term works, vivas and attendance issues. A very loyalist and biased line in the report : Though Thakur College won the motion of the debate, it was Fr. CRCE that won the hearts and minds of the audience on the strength and conviction of their arguments. From what I heard, Singh whooped everyones asses; left, right, center and beyond.
CResCEndo '07 : Report on the annual technical festival. Continues to be sad.

Sports Report 07-08

IEEE : Institute for Eccentric  and Em0 Egglings something something.

Fr CRCE : A report on the ranting of a female alumni, and her apprehension that the college was losing the charm that it once seemingly had, owing to various reasons. Cleanliness, shitty college fests, sponsorship issues, communication gaps and so on. And the unwillingness of anyone to do something about it and change the prehistoric patterns. Good read, a bit overdramatic.

Thinkers' Club : Nothing much to mention, other than the gay-ish motto...

NEN : Entrepreneurship cell.

CSI : The IEEE of computer stream.

NSS : One of the very few things that make me proud to be a part of the college.

Other stuff
Graffiti Wall : :\
Only the last post was fairly decent.

Artists gallery : Needs to be in color, if the sketches were.

Exit Laughing : Ha  ha ha :\

And I wonder for how long are we gonna keep that "You know you're in CRCE when" segment. It's not even lamely funny anymore.
Couldn’t make out if the Dhirubhai thing was s'posed to be funny…maybe I'm just losing my sense of humor.

All in all, a well blended assortment of everything an engineering college mag should have : technical stuff, literature, fun elements, college happenings and then a bit more. Tons better than the one we had last year.

Anonyholics Anonymice : Prelude

An entire generation of the scene guyboikids, disgusted by the stagnant phase the scene was going through, profoundly nauseated by the all time lowlife levels community trolling had reached and sickened further by the lack of restecp given out to the Anonymice finally decided to take matters in their hands and jack off the white pearls of wisdom (the bearer of the flag being Cumplex).

Educational cowcrap, slayerist religionisation, social inferiorism, anti-pedoist laws, gigs with entry charges, parental pressure, and even parenting problems in some cases ensued that the Anonymice remained deadbeatbored even after masturbating for the 5th time in the day while simultaneously squatting mosquitoes at the rate of 40 per minute.

Unable to bear the blasé happenings circumventing them, the Anonymice finally exploded; the venue being metal ka pavitra mandir, the \m/w\ comm. For 3 whole nights they rejoiced in the glory of their self-being, indulging in heavenly tr0llfests. All the same, as is the case with all things blissfull, the community became infested with pseudo-vella Karthik wannabes (as if the original thing wasn't enough). The bomb finally dropped when PunkejJ Deole, the devta of pavitrata metal acted like a true "BORN PHSYCO" and managed to delete all the threads.
And so ceased Phase I

However, what started off as being an escape-route from the kingdom of boredom soon ended up as an ineluctable addiction..worse than caffeine. The Anonymice became Anonyholics.
And so commenced Phase II

An affair with advertising

The Mobile Advertising Event in college was just what the doctor prescribed at this current creativity-drained-interest-lacking-college-life juncture. Thankfully, Naved got his laptop and all went well. In the 4 hours we had in hand, we managed to render 3 advertisements.
One minute was the time constraint and lame-o were the topics. Here goes :

1. Empty Bisleri Bottle.

Since we couldn't find a Bislery bottle anywhere in the vicinity and being the smartasses that we are, we slyly changed the topic to An Empty Bottle. But that still didn't stop the topic from being l4m3. With nothing much coming to anyones mind, I just recommended shooting the journey of a bottle and somehow relating it to the fun aspects of college life. Added a public message-ish tagline later. Huge Irony at the end, but not many people noticed.

2. Vitamin Pills. (Remastered version)
Kartha came up with the concept for this one, and Lee and Ib contributed to the theme. Was improvised upon as the shooting progressed. Awesome piece of acting by Kartha. A hit with the crowd :D

3. A Pair Of Glasses. (Remastered version)
Killerest theme, thanks to Ib and Animes. Had its own element of unpredictability. Naved owned. Highly creative and made everyone laugh their asses off. Was entirely shot and edited in about 15 minutes.

Empty Bisleri Bottle won. A Pair Of Glasses came in second. Would've won the 3rd prize too, but lost out because of the unmentioned 'only-1-entry-per-team' inside rule, I reckon. Still, TCS sponsored cash and certificates. Not bad...not bad at all.
Anyone wanting advertisements for their products, you know where to go now. (:P)

Mumbai strays are so patriotically Indian...just look at their population.

Had no idea watching Reading '92 for the nth time would make me feel so full of life. Or pressing the format key, for that matter.

People are so fucking biased. It's like communicating with a wall without ears at times.

Good things don't last long. Otherwise, they wouldn't have felt so good in the first place.

OMGWTF?
I know.

Rex and Dexter is THE shit, at the moment.

And, as if I needed something extra to feel like crap all over again, in spite of having a coffee-less existence for what now seems like mega-eons; got a haircut. No more Mr. Long Hair. Hence.

Hard Driving Woes

When I bought my 320 GB HDD ages back (after suffering n number of digital heartbreaks and accomplishing an intense amount of *ahem* hard work that I can't even begin to describe), I had this invincible feeling of never having to burn shit on discs and undergo a weekly cribbing ritual to manage space on my drive. But now, ages afterwards, the disc is totally stuffed... and has commenced it's nautanki; whirring like a loner and almost screaming at me to help minify it's load every time I turn the comp on. The thing is, some wandering viruses have made it their home, so there bes a need to treat and format the baby. But, going by how most lazy bums function, I don't see that happening anywhere in the near and semi-distant future. The thing2 is, these #+$+@+$+% friends of mine have truckloads of ammunition at the moment (and at every other moment, come to think of it) that I need to experience. Here goes :

Ibrahim : Over 400G of mangas, animes and other kickass stuff which even he doesn't know about.

Swapnil :Alway has 50G of movies in his external drive. Sadly...the size stays constant, the flicks don't, adding to my agony.

Chaunte : Haven't checked it out yet, but by what he says, heaps of punk and otherkvltshit.

Dharmesh : :S . Music. LOADS of music.

So, moral of the story/post/whatever : Need.To.Get.A.New.HDD.

PS : Disk Cleanup wizard = X(

PS2 : Gaalis in Japanese/Mandarin/Cantonese  ? Love mah new

The Grace of 6ism

After what had been a pretty good day, the bomb dropped. Results were out; without any premonition and at the most unfit time, as usual. And so began the customary ritual of students screwing up the already megascrewed MU site. Knew I was gonna flunk in Maths even if god got drunk and corrected my paper. The site finally gave way at 2 and in what turned out to be one of the most weirdass moments of 2007, it showed that I passed. Spent the later hour rechecking the page and laughing my ass off at the univ. (PS : Aparna, Sukanya...you peeps rock. Supergoodluckcharms ye females art.) Next day in college yielded that they gave me 40 in Maths and 34 + * in Applied Science...with a graceful 6 marks added. And that I wasn't hallucinating the previous night.

Not that I give a flying fuck about the result, but it got mom hopping like mad all over the place and doing inanely mushy stuff for a substantial amount of time.
Which was a complete contrast to the ambience that would've been had I flunked in even one subject...Starting with her getting mightily pissed off for some days and later on screaming like an overworked police siren whenever she'd see me within 5 meters of my comp. And the daily dose of taunts as to how I'd been a complete good for nothing sloth of a failure all my life and yada yada yada. Which is kinda true even now; it's only that the mark sheet shows otherwise.

The result is a bit consequential as it now connotes that I've cleared my first year during the first year itself, which is in itself a mini-feat, if you may (considering that fact that it involves engineering, studying, and yours truly)
